Neil deGrasse Tyson

One of my friends said to me, "American Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is arguably one of the best Physics storytellers that the world has ever witnessed."

I second with my friend on the above statement. I have a set of stories to lean towards why Professor Tyson is the best.

Here's my list.

Story 1 -

I encountered the teachings of Neil through a nugget from his book, Astrophysics for People in a hurry.

Neil said, "The remarkable feature about the laws of Physics is that they apply everywhere, whether or not you choose to believe in them. After the laws of Physics, everything else is an opinion."

Takeaway - If someone argues against Physics with you, smile and ignore. Because Physics can never be wrong. Never ever.

Story 2 -

Neil explained, "If the Sun explodes, we wouldn't be knowing it for 8 minutes and 20 seconds, because sunlight takes that amount of time to reach Earth's surface. And then, we all would vaporize."

Takeaway - Sunlight takes 8 mins and 20 secs to reach Earth. Sun can literally vaporize us :)

Story 3 -

"If you toss a pebble in the air, it comes back. But if you toss it faster, it'll go higher and come back. There is a speed at which if you toss the pebble such that it'll never come back to Earth, and that speed is called the escape velocity. The escape velocity of Earth is 7 miles per second."

Takeaway - If you had the energy to toss the things at 7 miles per second, you would be considered equivalent to God! XD

You see, Neil's storytelling is so spectacular that the takeaways barely diminishes :)

Closing this with my favourite axiom about Physics from Elon,

"𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬." - 𝐄𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐤

Thanks for the read.
